Fatehpur Sikri

Fatehpur Sikri (30,000 pop.) a magical place not far from Agra and Taj Mahal built in the 15th century my the famous Mughal rules AKBAR. Sikir is even older than that with mention in the Mahabharat text as Saik, as well as stone aged tools dating to 1200 B.C. The town Fatehpur or Fatehabad is where you can find accommodations while Sikris the main site:

  • Buland Darwaza, a huge red gate the leads to the courtyard and mosque. This area require no entrance ticket, so if you arrive late in the day you can go here for a visit.

 

  • Jama Masjid, 'Fridays Mosque"
  • Diwan-i-Am, public hall
  • Ibadat Khana, house of worship
  • Tomb of Salim Chisti, consider to be top quality Mughal Architecture.
  • Naqqar Khana, The music house.
  • Panch Mahal, Five story palace.
  • Raja Birbal House, Raja's house of course.

Accommodation in Fatehpur Sakri:  The best place to stay is at the RTDC Bungalows, run by the Rajasthan Government (as long as there is not a local wedding booked here.)

Getting to Fatehpur Sakri:  Is 42 KM from Agra, will take at least 1 hour by bus, taxi would be much better option
