About Mammalapuram (mam-ala-puram)

The good: Relaxing beach area with lots of local culture, Mammalapuram dance festival runs from X-mas for one month is very nice, Many restaurants to choose, authentic south Indian food to enjoy. Long beach to walk along. Nice temples.

The bad: Lots of European, older tourist are coming in crowds. Accommodation are more expensive prices and run down etc. Lots of cheating people and beggars.

The ugly: Mammalapuram has a serious mosquito problem, the beach is very polluted with human feces, raw sewage is everywhere as are the flies, the water is rough and not clean to swim.

TIP: No need to take a taxi to or from the airport, new modern AC buses are running south to Mammalapuram from Guinty Station in Chennai.  The only make a few scheduled stops. Zoom out of the map and look for the BUS icon.
